The purpose of this research is to demonstrate how to use knowledge management system to allow a business to operate more efficiently by sharing employee’s creative ideas. Collaboration of employees’ ideas will help a company to create new business ideas or strategies. Educating the knowledge management concept to employees is a critical element of successful implementation of the system because the system itself would not help a company to grow. Interacting or collaborating employees ideas is key to the success. It is not the system itself. The proper adaption of the system will help company to grow faster and have an edge against competitors.
When I heard about the knowledge management system, I thought this would be a very difficult concept. While I was researching through the internet and by watching YouTube videos, I found that the concept was very interesting and I thought I could apply the concept to my daily life. Knowledge management ( KM ) comprises a range of strategies and practices used in an organization to identify, create, represent, distribute, and enable adoption of insights and experiences .[1] It is a management approach that will improve the performance by sharing individual’s knowledge and ideas and share it across the organization.
As my research progressed, I found that there was a scientific discipline about the Knowledge management system. KM emerged as a scientific discipline in the earlier 1990s. Discussion of the KM idea has been taken up by academics, such as Ikujiro Nonaka ( Hitotsubashi University ), Hirotaka Takeuchi (Hitotsubashi University), Thomas H. Davenport ( Babson College ) and Baruch Lev ( New York University ). [2]
Mr. Ikujiro Nonaka is best known for his studies of the Knowledge Management . His work is built on an examination of the different concepts of knowledge in the East and the West. [3] According to Mr. Nonaka, the knowledge can be divided into two parts of knowledge such as “Tacit Knowledge” and “explicit knowledge ”. “Tacit Knowledge “is an individual idea or expression that has the form of invisible knowledge. The invisible knowledge is difficult to convey to others such as a skill perspective and awareness. For example, when a person learns how to ride a two wheel bicycle at the first time, a person follows an instruction or guidance, but it is difficult to describe every detail. When riding a bike it requires balancing, no one can tell you how to balance, rather you figuring it out with your own thinking and ideas.
The other part of knowledge is “ Explicit Knowledge”. The explicit knowledge is the form of visible knowledge. In many cases, explicit knowledge is easy to quantify the objective and theoretical . As an image of tacit knowledge is acquired and utilized in an analog manner , on the other hand, explicit knowledge will be able to say formal knowledge which is acquired and utilized as a digital .
In the society of today , knowledge is well-balanced of these two knowledge is required for the knowledge worker in any case . When I read the concept about knowledge, I totally agreed with his concept. Sometimes I have an idea in my mind but it is difficult to express my feeling clearly in actual words.
People learn a lot from experiences. Although an individual may not have many experiences themselves, but by sharing their individuals experience with each other, people’s knowledge will increase dramatically. As a result, using the knowledge management system, a company is able to improve the performance of the entire organization.
Furthermore, a person get a good inspiration about an idea, it should not be tucked away in their minds. The new idea is fragile; people have to write about the idea actively in order to transform the tacit knowledge to explicit knowledge, then to share the knowledge to others . As a result, a good idea evolves itself and would be able to continue to grow into knowledge certainly.
For example, my friend talked to me about the possibility of a coupon business using a smartphone long time ago. That was before the Groupon came out. Personally I love using a coupon and thought about the idea was very interesting. However, my friend was busy and with jobs and did not have enough time to think about it deeply. Then few years later, the coupon company called “Groupon” cameout. If my friend shared the knowledge with other people and built this idea stronger, his life might have been changed now.
In my conclusion, knowledge management system itself does not contribute results. People have to deeply understand the concept of the knowledge management. Mr. Nonaka said “Companies and leaders who treat knowledge management as just another branch of IT don’t understand how human beings learn and create,” [4] Today, Acquiring information is easier than decades ago. I am sure that people manipulate the knowledge management system as a tool and companies will be able to enhance their revenue in the future.

Virtual reality
In recent years, technology has been developing rapidly; virtual reality will be a great asset for learning. Many children learn and use new technology quickly. Having virtual technology in education will provide a lot of potential for children’s education.
The word of “ virtual reality” had often heard in the last few years, but an attempt by a cinema photographer named Morton Heilig in the mid-1950s.[1] Since then this concept and technology has been evolving and developing. Virtual reality (VR) is a computer-simulated environment that can simulate physical presence in places in the real world or imagined worlds. [2] In order to enter the world of virtual reality, people have to wear special glasses and headphones attached to a computer system.
A well-known virtual reality system is the Nintendo Wii. [3] Most children are familiar playing on this gaming device. So by using a virtual reality system much likes the Wii, it will be a great asset for the children’s education. Also, it is easier to introduce a virtual reality system because the children know what feels like. For example, today many schools have been implementing new technology such as the smart board and a special microphone in order to strengthen the children’s academics. In my town‘s public school, they started using the smart board technology and now even elementary school aged children been using the power point and smart boards for their presentation in a classroom. Many children know how to use the smartphone or tablet, using the smart board is not difficult to use for children. I am sure children will learn virtual reality system if school utilize the system. I found an article about virtual reality system in an after school program that was held in Iowa state university. The school principle said, "This puts the learning on the student. Instead of depending on what the teacher knows and can do, now it is just totally with the student and what they can do," "Their only limitation is their own mind." [4] This article shows that the virtual reality system is a great asset for learning.
Most students think about their future career, “What do you want to do when you are grown up?” is a common question for children. Virtual reality can allow for the creation of full environments that would present the experience of hands-on study without needing to leave the classroom.[5] For example, a student who wants to be scientist such as a marine biologist is able to look at what’s happening under the water. Most students are not having an opportunity to experience the deep sea world. A student is able to touch various fish, research about sea environment by touching and hearing sounds of sea world will be a great experience who considers being marine biologist. If student are able to have such an opportunity, a student will have enormous benefits for their future. [6]
If a school utilizes virtual reality and provides a career fair occasionally using the technology, student is able to experience many careers instead of just researching and reading books. In my opinion, if technology will be able to provide experiment information/result about a job, a student considers that whether a job is suitable or not. For example, if a virtual reality system has an analyzing feature and is able to provide the result about student’s creativity, curiosity and suitability of the their interested career. Some student might discover their hidden talents. So a student may be able to make a decision in early age and set a goal and focus for studying in order to have an ideal occupation.
In my conclusion, virtual reality will be providing good experience and potentials to children in future. A child's genetic background will influence his ability to learn, but good educational experiences can enhance these abilities. [7] Technology has kept evolving within decades and tends to be easier to use or carry. More over, price has been more affordable. Investing in the future of children is very important; virtual reality will be provided tremendous benefits for future children.

Decision Support Systems
In today’s competitive business environment, using Decision Support Systems is beneficial for the Restaurant industry. There are more than 24,000 restaurants in New York City. Some restaurants ran for a long time. Some restaurant closes within a short period of time. An owner and/or manger of a restaurant always improve their services and sometimes they have to make big decisions in order to enhance sales.
A Decision Support System is a computer application program that analyses business data that helps enhances a person’s decision. The Decision Support Systems (DSS) was investigated and built by researchers about 40 years ago. The theory was developed in the1970sand continued to develop the system of Data warehouses, Executive Information Systems, OLAP and Business Intelligence. Finally, the chronicle ends with knowledge-driven DSS and the implementation of Web-based DSS beginning in the mid-1990s. The field of computerized decision support is expanding to use new technologies and to create new applications. [1]
Decision support system includes knowledge-based systems . A properly designed DSS is an interactive software-based system intended to help decision makers compile useful information from a combination of raw data, documents, and personal knowledge, or business models to identify and solve problems and make decisions. [2] Decision Support Systems helps you to resolve everyday business questions by reporting, monitoring and analyzing data. By implementing the DSS it is able to reduce the cost, increase profit and also the restaurant can improve their customer service and hospitality.
McDonald’s corporation is the world’s largest fast food chain restaurant; people probably will find McDonalds wherever you go to in USA.
In 1940, Maurice and Richard ("Mac" and “Dick") opened a restaurant in San Bernardino, California . [3] Starting from a small hamburger shop in 1940, by 1973, there were 10,000 restaurants in USA.
The company continued to grow and reached 20,000 restaurants by 1981. Today, McDonald's does business in 118 countries and 32,000 restaurants around the world. McDonalds serves about 47million customers a day.
McDonalds started with a small restaurant and business grew continually.
The company keeps evolving and improving and making developments and recently by using technology as an aid, McDonalds have made better decisions.
McDonalds uses Information system efficiently. The company uses various systems such as: Transaction Processing System (TPS), Decision support system (DSS), Management Information Systems (MIS), POS system (Scale of Point system) and Hyperactive Bob system.
Management information systems involve three primary resources: technology, information, and people, and the most important resource is people, the information that we get supports the routine decision making in the functional areas. [4] Macdonald also uses decision support system. For example,
McDonalds analyze the market well to come with opportunity, as we know we live in the time of technology, so McDonalds thought of providing wireless services, so the company gather information about the customer usage of wireless services, length of stay and sales level, then the decision support system analyze the data to come up with the decision of providing wireless service in their restaurant. [5]
McDonald’ management strategy is unique and challenging. Therefore McDonald’s achieved many things with its management techniques. One of the achievements was that McDonald renovated 11,000 restaurants about 10 years ago. The Interior was changed to become more bright and clean, so the image of McDonalds changed. The customer felt more comfortable and enjoyed eating their food and even the McDonalds kid’s play room was attractive to many small children.
Recently People are more concerned about food calorie and so McDonalds changed some of their menu and added some healthy menu items such as salad or yogurt.
Also the taste of coffee has been improving. As a result 70% of coffee sales improve within a few years. McDonalds launched a special coffee menu “Mc Café” a few years ago. The customer is able to buy a cappuccino or café latte instead of going to other coffee shops such as Starbucks. This happened during the bad economy, I think this is very unique and big decision for the fast food restaurant.
Making decisions are challenging. However, as I see some examples from McDonald’s corporation management strategy, company sometimes has to face challenging situation. In my conclusion, Using advanced technology; it makes it easier for the decision maker to make the right call.

E-business and globalization
E-business will grow continually and globalize more in the future. Even though there are some disadvantages with e-business, but with advanced technology and unique human ideas, E-business competition will spread worldwide. Therefore globalization will keep growing and improving.
Many people are concerned about their safety when giving their credit card number to an online company. Even people feel more risk when purchasing a product from foreign countries. However, PayPal provides solutions for this problem for the consumer, for a new way of payment.
PayPal is a global e-commerce business allowing payments and money transfers to be made through the Internet. [1] e-Bay acquired PayPal in 2002, PayPal is the faster, safer way to pay and get paid online, via a mobile device and in store. PayPal’s service gives people simpler ways to send money without sharing financial information, and with the flexibility to pay using their account balances, bank accounts, credit cards or promotional financing. [2] PayPal use encryption software to allow people to make financial transfers between computers. [3]
PayPal does like intermediary so people can trusts and feel less risk instead of providing credit card number. Not only that they can adjust the currency, PayPal’s had Multiple Currencies featured. [4] 128 million active accounts in 193 markets and 25currencies around the world, PayPal enables global commerce, processing more than With 7.6 million payments every day. [5] PayPal provides a huge difference especially consumer to consumer business such as E-bay.
When people go to the mall, you will always find USA designer’s brands such as Coach and Tiffany. These USA designer brands are very popular in some foreign country. In USA, people are able to purchase a Coach bag at $250.00 but in some foreign countries such as Japan, the price can be double or even triple the actual price because they don’t have many retail stores. When Japanese travelers come to USA and go to outlet such as wood berry common or just a local shopping mall, people surprise about the price of the USA designer brands.
When I researched about E-business, especially consumer to consumer, I found an interesting company in Japan. This company does an online Resale business . This company has 30000 sellers from 70 nations and handles 4000 designers’ brands. Sellers don’t have to be a professional seller; they can be a student or anybody who like to have a side business.
This company researched that some designers brand are less expensive in some foreign countries compared with products selling in Japan. Also the company system is very unique because the seller does not have to carry an actual product which means no inventory at all. Sellers just listed the picture of the product on the company web site and explain about the products from a foreign country using a computer . After that a seller can just wait until a buyer make bid. When a customer bids on a product, the seller can just go to a store and buy the product and ship it to the customer. Buyers can also request a product to the sellers. Unlike e-bay and amazon.com, advantage of this system is that seller does not carry inventory. So anybody who is interested in this business or want learn about the business can do this without spending fund. I heard about this company about 3 years ago and my friend has been doing as a seller for several years.
This company just listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange. I am very interesting about the future of this company’s business style and I will keep a close eye on this company’s growth.

Super store explanation
I clicked on Existing database and found features samples. I clicked on Super store sales and copy this database right upper side of the screen. I added a column “Tax” using add button.
After“tax” column appeared, I did not want to type 0.07 numbers in each row. So I choose “Find and replace “and add tax number of 0.07 to the replace section. So its howed 0.07 in each row.
Also I added “Profitafter tax” using custom formula “Profit*(1-0.07)”. I added 2 rows which are air cleaner and books in last 2 rows.

Web 2.0
Using Web 2.0, it provides enormous advantages
and changes our life style completely, but users have to take a responsibility to
use technology in good ways.
Web2.0 is not a static one-way transmission
of information by the caller,
recipient of
the information is also able to build up the
content freely. Web 2.0 was referred to as this idea of the "Web as
a platform". [1] Companies
used to disseminate information on web, but this has completely changed by
blog, SNS and You tube.
You tube and Flickr provide very useful
video clips. About a decade ago, in order to learn application software, people
used to buy high cost educational videos. Recent years, people can watch demonstration
clips on you tube and learn software easily.
Using You tube as educational purpose is excellent. Anybody can learn easily
without any cost. Also, there is great opportunity to show your talent and become
famous.
You Tube does not require signing in
or no blocked content. As a result, children even kindergarten, is able to
watch You Tube if they want. There are rating for DVD or movie, therefore parents
can choose whether this DVD is adequate for children or not. However, there is
no rating for you tube video clip at all. There is parent control and is able
to block the entire site. However, users are not being able to sort video clips
strictly. Micro blogging site such as Twitter can updated post constantly from internet or even from phone. Micro blogging is writing extremely short blog posts, kind of like text messages. Twitter is currently the most popular micro blog service and lets users post entries up to 140 characters long.[2]
About 1 year ago, Hurricane Sandy attacked east coast. New Jersey had huge damaged by the hurricane. Most town in try states also lost power and no heat for several days. It was cold and frightens experience. People could not obtain information from TV and internet. Gas stations were closed due to damage of the roads so it was difficult to get gas. People started sharing that which gas station was open and available. People kept updated information by twitter or Facebook. This is a good example to show that using advanced technology in a good way.
Cyber bulling especially among for teenagers is serious concern nowadays. "Cyber bullying" is when a child, preteen or teen is tormented, threatened, harassed, humiliated, embarrassed or otherwise targeted by another child, preteen or teen using the Internet, interactive and digital technologies or mobile phones.[3] When I research about Cyber bulling, I was surprised by numbers of victim. It says, over half of adolescents and teens have been bullied online, and about the same number have engaged in cyber bullying. More than 1 in 3 young people have experienced cyber threats online. [4]
Last year, there was an anti-bullying
campaign in my town’s public school. The school invited a person who lost his 12
years old son by cyber bullying. His son was bulling when he was an elementally
school and parents contacted a school and tried to solve the problem. Then the
bullying was stopped. However, when his son entered a middle school, another
way of bullying, cyber bullying began. His son did not talk about cyber
bullying and parents did not know anything about it. As a result, parents lost their
precious son.
People have to commit Netiquette. Netiquette, a colloquial portmanteau of network etiquette or Internet etiquette is a set of
social conventions that facilitate interaction over networks, ranging from Usenet and mailing lists to blogs
and forums.[5] Society has to protect and take responsibility to
educate children.
I n conclusion, advanced
technology such and Wb2.0 provides us a lot of potential for our life. However, there are not only advantages, users
have to always aware of disadvantages and use the technology in appropriate
ways.

The market size of
the online shopping is expanding steadily and further technological innovation can
help expand online shopping more and more in the future. Online shopping does not require having a brick and mortar shop,
so there is no complicated procedure and can be opening without investing a lot
of cost. Furthermore, an online shop does not spend as much money on expenses;
so as a result, the buyer is able to buy products at a reasonable price.
One of my favorite online companies is called Zappos .com, which
is mainly selling shoes and clothing. The
founder of Zappos.com is Nick Swinmum who was looking for his pair of athletic
shoes in a mall and could not find shoes. This was his inspiration and an
opportunity to opening his online store. [1]Zappo.com founded in 1999, the company has grown rapidly in short time. Advertising costs were minimal, and the company grew mostly by word of mouth. In 2008, Zappos hit $1 billion in annual sales, two years earlier than expected (one year later, they fulfilled their other long-term goal, debuting at No. 23 on Fortune’s Top 100 Companies to Work For)[2] The company provide excellent customer service and also shipping and handling is very fast. Zappo.com has unique company policy. I watched company demonstration clip on you tube and looks very fun and creative work environment. This is one of the successful online businesses.
Online shopping is very convenient but buyers always have to be careful about Identity thefts. There is a lot of information about safety tips on web. Buyer has to choose a store with good reviews. That is very helpful to select a shop. Don’t judge the business by its website. Make sure the site has a physical address and a working phone number.[3] When a customer enters personal information and credit card number, they have to always check whether the website is encrypted or not.
Last year, I bought some products from a well-known
company but debited from an unknown shop for 2 months. The amount was only
$39.99 and did not realize it even I usually review a credit card bill. I
called a credit company and explained about the strange unknown shop. They said
this company was scam and located in somewhere in Caribbean. My personal
information was stolen.
I always careful when I do online shopping
and apply safety tips. However, in addition to these safety tips, users can
install web browsers. There is security web browser such as Internet
Explorer 9. Tracking
Protection in Internet Explorer 9 helps to protect your privacy from
third-party online trackers. Helps protect against cross-site scripting
attacks. Cybercriminals
look for vulnerabilities in website code so that they can insert malicious
scripts which gather private information about site visitors. [4] Firefox5,
Google chrome 12, Opera 11, RockMelt, these are also safety web browsers. Most websites describe product’s pros and
cons. Users can research products and choose a suitable web browser. I see many
products are able to download from web sites with no cost.
In my conclusion, technology is keep
evolving and improving. Most large online corporations are inventing new ways to make fraud more
difficult. [5] In future, more people
will be used advanced technology easily and effectively. I believe that number
of online shopping sites and users will increased and get more popular; it will
keep growing.

Database
The database has influenced and helped us in every scene of our lives directly or indirectly.
By using the database, users will be able to run the command on the data, searching, sorting, analysis, summary, and reporting in a short time. Database is much better than a simple list or table.
Also database can obtained information from a variety of files, so users do not need re-enter the information manually. Users can process more accurate and efficiently input of data.
In recent years, travelers have come by purchasing flight tickets by online. Before than most people had to go/ call to a travel agency to get prices on airplane tickets then go to the agency to purchase the tickets. Nowadays, people can research airplane’s tickets price and compare prices easily by the internet. People are able to choose different dates for flights and make reservations and even request In-flight meal by the internet. For example, Expedia is an internet based travel company that was launched by a small division of Microsoft. This company has grown rapidly and has local–language sites in 31 countries worldwide; the company grossed 4 billion dollars in 2012. In the sales of airplane tickets for the travel company, it is not an exaggeration to say that the speed of the web site affect the performance of business especially e-commerce of B2C (business to customers).
I found out that some online based travel companies use Oracle database and Oracle Times Ten In-Memory Database. Oracle is computer technology Company and third largest soft maker. The Oracle database system—identified by an alphanumeric system identifier or SID—comprises at least one instance of the application, along with data storage.[1] Oracle Database 12c introduces a new multitenant architecture that makes it easy to deploy and manage database clouds.[2] Oracle TimesTen In-Memory Database is a full-featured relational database that runs in the application tier, storing all data in main memory. [3]} TimesTen is an in-memory database that is suitable for high performance transaction, data processing and management. Advantages of using this database is that response is fast can be used over a long period of time. TimesTen In-Memory Database is held in the Oracle l database in the middle and retains the reservation data and user profile to use as a cache for application layer. Times Ten databases does not need disk1/o for data operation so transaction is reduced to microseconds, complex analytical queries will be executed in thinking speed. Furthermore, Time Ten provides very fast access time so it is suitable for real-time financial services trading applications and large web applications, travel logistics, gaming, and more.
The fast access and reliability for Travel Company is very important. The travel company records the features, including a personal preference and travel history of airlines, travel destination, car rental, and hotels in profiles. The online travel reservation system must be presented to the instant products and meet the complex search requirements. In order to handle enormous transaction, using powerful database is very important to enhance sales.

Launching an internet business by buying and selling music CDs, investing a lot of fund is not necessary in the beginning.
Without using the expense as much as possible, I do not rent an office or warehouse first 3 months or more.
1. Raw materials --- Used Music CD
2. Inbound logistics ---- CD cases, boxes for shipping In order to sell Music CD, I have to collect many different kinds of music CD. Collecting good quality and less cost music CDs in the beginning, it takes time and makes effort to reach used music CD sellers. *Searching and buying used music CD from e-bay or other auction site. * Ask friends or classmates by E-mail or social network if they want to sell any music CDs. *After contacting to used music CD sellers or closed music stores, get estimate of purchase amount. *Notice an assessment by E-mail and if it is OK, do bank transfer to the customer’s bank account immediately. * A courier service will go to seller’s houses or closed stores and pick up used CDs.

Gadget
I sometimes visit
blogs in order to research good restaurants in tri state area, but I never thought
about having my own blog, so this is the first time operating my own blog.
I clicked on the icon of the layout then it showed “Add a
Gadget”, I clicked on it and showed the option of Gadgets. I decided to add the
+1 Button. So Instead of writing about a comment, people can quickly and easy
to respond to a blog and I can see the number of results from it.

world. People’s comment affects the decision of the things of others. If a
person who has many followers and strong influence to others, it can make a

Let think about human society. Each
individual has been living implications to others. Human beings are not being
able to live alone. The society formed by each single family and each family
consists of each individual.

an American psychiatrist and one of
the pioneer of family therapy and founder of systemic therapy. He developed a
system theory of the family. He
said that “Families are systems of interconnected and interdependent
individuals, none of whom can be understood in isolation from the system” [2]
H. Dan Smith who is the
professor of California State University said “In recent years, the view
of the family as a "system" has become an increasingly popular and
important theoretical framework for counselors and family therapy professionals.

The family is that consists of
around a person who is in kinship and couple. The family system, husband and
wife, father and son, mother and child, siblings consist of the specific
sub-systems respectively. It is important as the role of the family is support
each other mentally and economically, parents take care of children and
everyone to grow together.
Each family member has own responsibility. If an individual does not
fulfill their responsibility, building a healthy family is difficult and does
not function well.

E-commerce and Mobile commerce are very popular to
any age group nowadays.
E-commerce is electronic transactions between
companies (business to business or B2B), companies and consumers (business to
consumer or B2C), consumers and other consumers (consumer to consumer, or C2C)Mobile commerce is the using the mobile phone in particular. Transactions can be made anytime and anywhere.
In E-commerce, the seller side has some benefits.
Opening a store is easy and they are not necessary to have regular stores, with
E-commerce you can hire fewer people to operate the store, compared to having regular
stores. Also, online sites have abilities to have a world market. The buyers can be omitted for the
distribution stage of a product and purchase goods at a low price.
About 2 months ago, I sent a
mother’s day flowers to my mother who lives in Japan. I used the famous Japanese
online shopping mall company called “Rakuten”; it is like the “Amazon.com” in Japan.
Many shops open to “Rakuten” because this company has good reputations and
reviews. Here is an example of information system.
I choose a bouquet of nice carnations with a thank
you card. I entered a number of quantity;
choose a color, delivery day and a message to my mother on the order form. The
company was collecting and capturing raw data.
The flower shop took my order and calculated the
cost and shipping fee. Also, ordering from a foreign country means that they have
to convert currency, from US dollars to Japanese yen. Then the shop had to
contact the shipping company to send the bouquet. This is step of Processing.
The flower shop took a picture of the flowers, before
sending it to my mother’s house and notified me through the e-mail. The
shipping company gave me a tracking number so I could track where the flower
went.
When the flower delivered to my mother’s house,
the flower shop sent me an e- mail and asked some questions about the service. Reviews
and good feedback are very influential for the success of the online business.
The delivery was fast and the quality of the
product was excellent. Furthermore, the cost was low and save a lot of time
instead of shopping at a regular shopping mall.
